The treatment

What is XERF?

XERF™ (Extended Energy Radio Frequency) is an advanced, non-surgical skin tightening treatment developed by Cynosure Lutronic. Unlike conventional radiofrequency treatments, it delivers RF energy deeper into the skin, reaching the shallow, middle and deep layers, where its makers describe real structural change beginning.

The treatment uses proprietary multi-depth technology designed to remodel the structure of tissue and restore firmness subdermally, through collagen and elastin thickening, strengthening and shortening. Each pulse uses Wave Fit™ pulse technology balanced with Integrated Cryogen Delivery (ICD) cooling, which monitors the temperature of your skin throughout, so the treatment feels warm and comfortable, with no needles and no numbing required.

XERF joins our advanced laser & radiofrequency portfolio in September 2026. As with every treatment at Facial Sculpting, it will be offered assessment-first: if another option suits your skin better, we will say so.

Real results

Before & after XERF

The photographs shown here are clinical before-and-after images for the XERF treatment, including results after a single treatment and after two treatments. They illustrate the kind of structural tightening of the lower face, jawline and profile the treatment is designed to achieve.

Once XERF launches at Facial Sculpting in September 2026, results from our own patients will be added here, assessed and photographed with the same honesty we apply across every treatment page.

Individual results vary and are not guaranteed. Photographs are clinical before-and-after images shown to illustrate the treatment and are not a promise of a specific outcome.

Concerns it can help

What does XERF address?

XERF is a skin-tightening treatment, designed for firmness and laxity concerns of the face and neck.

Honest suitability

Is XERF right for you?

XERF is described by its manufacturer as appropriate for all skin types, and every treatment is tailored with three depth settings and ten intensity levels. As always, final suitability is confirmed at your consultation, and we will tell you honestly if another option would serve you better.

Often well suited

  • Skin laxity and loss of firmness of the face or neck
  • Wanting skin tightening without needles, numbing or downtime
  • Preferring a comfortable, warm treatment experience
  • A busy routine that cannot accommodate recovery time
  • All skin types, per the manufacturer’s guidance
  • Realistic expectations of a progressive, natural-looking result

May not be suitable

  • Significant excess skin or advanced sagging needing surgical assessment
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding (subject to clinic policy)
  • Active infection or a skin condition in the treatment area
  • Certain implants, devices or medical conditions identified at consultation
  • Expecting a dramatic, surgery-level lift from a non-invasive treatment

The process

How XERF works, step by step

  1. Consultation & assessmentDr Nina or the clinical team assess your skin, facial anatomy, medical history and goals, and confirm whether XERF is the right choice or whether another route would be safer or more effective.
  2. Personalised settingsYour treatment is tailored to your unique skin profile using XERF’s three depth settings and ten intensity levels. The system adjusts according to your skin’s thickness to maximise effectiveness and minimise discomfort.
  3. Treatment deliveryThe handpiece delivers multifrequency RF energy in Wave Fit™ pulses, each cooled by Integrated Cryogen Delivery (ICD). The Spider Tip design provides uniform energy delivery with real-time temperature monitoring. A session usually takes about 45 minutes.
  4. An immediate tighter feelingPatients describe an immediately tighter feeling in the skin after treatment, and most daily activities can resume straight away.
  5. Collagen rebuilds over weeksIn the weeks after treatment your collagen continues to rebuild, enhancing your skin’s appearance over time. Reviews and any further sessions are planned with you.

“A less-is-more philosophy: XERF only when it’s genuinely right for you, for results that look like you, refined.”

Before treatment

What happens at your consultation

A consultation is required before XERF. During your consultation with Dr Nina and her team you will have a clinical assessment and your eligibility for treatment reviewed. You will be talked through the procedure in detail, what to expect during and after, and given the opportunity to ask questions.

The consultation covers your medical history, a facial-anatomy assessment, your suitability and any contraindications, realistic expected outcomes, alternatives if XERF is not ideal, consent, aftercare, and confirmation of your individual plan and pricing. Waiting-list members will be offered the first consultation slots ahead of the September launch.

Results & recovery

What to expect afterwards

XERF is designed with no downtime: you can resume most daily activities immediately after the treatment. The treatment itself feels warm and comfortable thanks to ICD cooling and Wave Fit™ pulse technology, with no needles and no numbing required.

How results develop: patients describe an immediately tighter feeling in the skin, and in the weeks after treatment collagen continues to rebuild, enhancing the skin’s appearance over time. The number of sessions depends on your individual skin condition and goals, and is planned with you.

Typical results timeline

Straight after

An immediately tighter feeling in the skin; most daily activities can resume right away.

First weeks

Collagen rebuilding gets underway in the treated layers.

Following weeks

Skin appearance continues to enhance as collagen remodelling progresses.

Ongoing

Reviews and any recommended further sessions are planned around your individual goals.

Safety

Possible risks & side effects

As with any medical aesthetic procedure, XERF carries some risks, even though it is non-invasive. Temporary warmth, redness or tenderness in the treated area can occur after radiofrequency treatments and usually settles quickly. Individual risks are discussed openly at your consultation before any treatment.

Careful patient selection, personalised settings and an experienced clinical team are important for reducing avoidable risks. If anything feels unexpected after treatment, you can contact the clinic for advice at any time.

Honest limitations

What XERF cannot do

  • It cannot remove significant excess skin or replace a surgical facelift.
  • It is not an instant transformation: the collagen response builds over weeks.
  • The number of sessions needed varies with your individual skin condition and goals.
  • Final suitability can only be confirmed at a face-to-face consultation.

"I’ve seen Dr. Nina twice now for lip augmentation, and honestly I couldn’t recommend her enough! The care she took in ensuring she knew what I wanted, as well as keeping me safe was more than any other practitioner I have been with. I have superficial blood vessels, so I am more prone to having complications, and she explained this to me and took all the necessary measures to ensure I got fabulous results while still being safe. I know that I can always contact her if anything worries me and for me that is paramount. Coming from a medical background it’s difficult to find someone I can trust, and after meeting lots of facial aesthetics doctors/dentists I know that I’ll be sticking with her! Also, she gives very helpful information on her instagram and TikTok!"

I recently visited Dr Nina at her Belgravia clinic and had the most wonderful experience, she is so skilled at what she does, super professional and not mention just lovely! She made me feel completely at ease and comfortable whilst talking through the procedures with great knowledge. I had Botox and profhilo with Dr Nina and it’s been a little over a week since the treatments and I am completely over the moon with my results, my skin has never been so glowy and radiant. I can’t wait for my next session in a few weeks.

I first went to see Dr Nina for Bruxism. Having already faced fillings from the grinding, and wearing a mouth guard every night, I was still regularly getting migraines and ice pick headaches, exacerbated from the daily tension in my jaw. My temples were always tender, and I’d wake up every morning tense and sore. This has been such a life-changing procedure, and now I start the day from a place of much greater relaxation, I’m able to deal with the stress of work and every day life with far more ease, I’m sleeping better, and if I wake in the night, I’m still amazed and grateful to find that my jaw is relaxed. I’m looking forward to trusting Dr. Nina with further treatments! Thanks Dr Nina!

I have never had laser treatment before but having just turned 47, I have started to notice ageing on my face and neck. I was feeling self conscious about the sagginess in my neck and the lines around my lips and chin, I didn’t want harsh surgery, so I decided to try Endolift, a non evasive treatment, with Dr Nina Bal. I cannot recommend Dr Nina, Endolift and her clinic enough. From the moment I entered the clinic I was made to feel relaxed and welcome. Dr Nina and her team were amazing throughout, the treatment was relatively quick and pain free. It has only been a week but I can already see fantastic results, and love what the treatment has done for me. Thanks Dr Nina, I will definitely be back.

What is XERF?

XERF™ (Extended Energy Radio Frequency) is an advanced, non-surgical skin tightening treatment developed by Cynosure Lutronic, described as Structural Skin Tightening. It is the world’s first multifrequency monopolar RF treatment, delivering radiofrequency energy into the shallow, middle and deep layers of the skin to stimulate collagen and restore firmness from within.

When will XERF be available at Facial Sculpting?

XERF launches at Facial Sculpting, South Kensington in September 2026. The waiting list is open now: members hear first and are offered priority access to the first consultation and treatment slots.

How does the XERF waiting list work?

Enter your email in the form on this page and you will be added to the XERF waiting list. Before launch we will contact you with booking access ahead of general availability. Joining the list is free, involves no commitment to book, and you can unsubscribe at any time.

How is XERF different from other radiofrequency treatments?

Unlike conventional RF treatments, XERF delivers energy deeper into the skin, reaching the shallow, middle and deep layers. It combines multifrequency monopolar RF with Wave Fit™ pulse technology and Integrated Cryogen Delivery (ICD) cooling, which balances energy delivery with cooling and monitors skin temperature in real time for a comfortable, safe treatment.

Does XERF hurt?

XERF has been designed with comfort in mind. The treatment feels warm and comfortable thanks to ICD cooling and Wave Fit™ pulses, and unlike many treatments there are no needles and no numbing required. Your practitioner tailors the intensity to you across ten levels.

How long does a XERF treatment take?

A session usually takes about 45 minutes, although the time can vary depending on the treatment areas. The number of sessions needed depends on your individual skin condition and goals, and is planned with you at consultation.

Is there any downtime after XERF?

No. You can resume most daily activities immediately after the treatment, which is one of the reasons XERF fits easily into a busy routine.

When will I see results from XERF?

Patients describe an immediately tighter feeling in their skin after treatment. In the weeks that follow, collagen continues to rebuild, enhancing the skin’s appearance over time. Individual results vary and are discussed honestly at consultation.

Is XERF suitable for all skin types?

The manufacturer describes XERF as appropriate for all skin types, with treatments tailored to each patient’s unique skin profile using three depth settings and ten intensity levels. Your individual suitability is always confirmed at a consultation, where your medical history and skin are assessed.

How much will XERF cost?

Pricing will be announced at launch in September 2026. Waiting-list members hear first. As with every treatment at Facial Sculpting, your exact plan and price are confirmed at consultation before anything goes ahead, with no obligation to proceed.

Do I need a consultation before XERF?

Yes. A consultation is required to assess your skin, facial anatomy, medical history and goals, and to confirm whether XERF is the right option or whether another treatment would serve you better. Waiting-list members will be offered the first consultation slots ahead of launch.
