Whether your lips have always been on the thinner side or have lost fullness and border definition with age, the right approach is conservative, proportionate and tailored — never an over-filled look.
Cross-linked hyaluronic-acid (HA) filler placed in or around the lips for volume, shape and definition
Common goals
Subtle fullness, a defined border and Cupid’s bow, better balance, or restoring lost volume
What to consider
Results are temporary; good outcomes depend on conservative dosing and technique; not everyone needs filler
People seek lip treatment for different reasons — lips that are naturally thin, that have lost fullness and border definition with age, that look uneven, or that simply need restoring. Lip enhancement uses cross-linked hyaluronic-acid (HA) filler placed in or around the lips to add subtle volume, refine shape and improve balance. The whole point here is a natural, less-is-more result — conservative amounts in proportion to your face, built gradually if needed — not an over-filled look. A proper assessment comes first; not everyone needs filler, and Dr Nina will say so.

Understanding the concern
What is Lip Fullness & Definition?
Lip fullness and definition come from two things working together: the soft volume of the lip body, and the crisp edges that frame it — the vermilion border, the Cupid’s bow and the corners. When both are present and in proportion, lips look balanced and defined. When volume drops or the borders blur, lips can look flatter, thinner or less distinct, even if their size has not changed dramatically.
Some people have always had naturally thinner lips or a flatter Cupid’s bow — this is simply genetics, not a problem to be fixed. For others, change comes with age: the lips gradually lose fullness and projection, the upper lip lengthens, the border softens and fine lines appear around the mouth. This is why lip enhancement is often as much about restoring shape and definition as it is about adding size.
Hyaluronic acid is a substance the body makes naturally; as a cross-linked filler it adds soft, hydrated volume and can rebuild structure where it has been lost. Used conservatively and placed precisely, it can make lips fuller, define the border, lift a flattened Cupid’s bow or even out mild asymmetry. The art is in restraint — respecting each person’s proportions so the result still looks unmistakably like their own lips.
Lip filler is not for everyone — and Dr Nina will tell you honestly if it is not the right option for you. HA filler is also reversible: it can be dissolved if you are unhappy or in the rare event of a complication.
Quick reference
What it is
Cross-linked hyaluronic-acid (HA) filler placed in or around the lips for volume, shape and definition
Common goals
Subtle fullness, a defined border and Cupid’s bow, better balance, or restoring lost volume
What to consider
Results are temporary; good outcomes depend on conservative dosing and technique; not everyone needs filler
Longevity & maintenance
Visible immediately, settles by about two weeks, and maintained over time as the body breaks the filler down
Natural-result philosophy
Less is more — small, conservative volumes in proportion to your face, built gradually rather than over-filled
Why it happens — three drivers
Natural anatomy
Some people are simply born with thinner lips, a flatter Cupid’s bow or a fuller lower than upper lip. This is normal variation, not a flaw — enhancement is a choice, not a correction.
Ageing
With age the lips lose fullness and projection, the upper lip lengthens, the vermilion border softens and definition fades — so restoring shape often matters as much as adding volume.
Imbalance & asymmetry
Lips may be uneven side to side, or out of proportion with one another or the rest of the face. Small, precise adjustments can improve balance without changing overall size.
Where it tends to show up
Lips that have always looked thin or flat
Loss of fullness or projection with age
A vermilion border that has softened or blurred
A flattened or less-defined Cupid’s bow
Mild unevenness between the two sides of the lips
An upper lip that has lengthened and lost shape

What happens at your consultation
A consultation is not a commitment to treatment — it is a proper clinical assessment. Here is what to expect.
01
A proper assessment of your lips
Dr Nina assesses the volume and shape of your lips, the definition of the border and Cupid’s bow, any asymmetry, and how the lips sit in proportion to the rest of your face — alongside your medical history and what you would like to change.
02
An honest, proportionate plan
If lip filler suits your goals, she will recommend a conservative amount in proportion to your face — and may advise building gradually over more than one session for thin lips, rather than over-filling in a single visit. The aim is a natural result, never a trend.
03
No obligation
Consultations are never upsells. If filler is not the right option for you, Dr Nina will say so plainly. The goal is the right answer for your lips and your face — not a booking.
What is the best treatment for fuller, more defined lips?
For fuller, better-defined lips, hyaluronic-acid lip enhancement is the established non-surgical option. Cross-linked HA filler is placed in or around the lips to add subtle volume, sharpen the vermilion border and Cupid’s bow, and improve balance between the upper and lower lip. The right amount depends entirely on your starting point and goals. At Facial Sculpting the approach is conservative and proportionate — a soft, natural result rather than an obvious enhancement. Dr Nina assesses your lips and facial proportions at consultation and, importantly, will tell you honestly if filler is not the right choice for you.
Will my lips look natural, not over-filled?
That is the entire philosophy here. The over-filled “duck lip” look comes from placing too much filler too quickly; Dr Nina works to a less-is-more approach instead — conservative amounts, placed precisely, in proportion to your face. Lips are usually designed with the lower lip a little fuller than the upper, so the result looks like a refreshed, balanced version of your own lips rather than a trend. If you have very thin lips, building gradually over more than one session helps keep things natural. The goal is fuller, better-defined lips that still look unmistakably like yours.
Can lip filler improve definition rather than just adding volume?
Yes — definition is often the main goal. Lip enhancement is as much about shape as size. HA filler can be placed precisely along the vermilion border to sharpen the edge of the lip, lift and define a flattened Cupid’s bow, and refine the corners — all without making the lips noticeably bigger. This matters because lips often lose border definition with age even when their volume is reasonable. For many people, restoring crisp definition and balance gives a more natural, refreshed result than simply adding fullness. Dr Nina assesses what your lips actually need at consultation.
Do I really need lip filler?
Not necessarily — and Dr Nina will tell you honestly. Some people have always had naturally thinner lips or a flatter Cupid’s bow, which is simply normal variation rather than a problem to fix. Lip enhancement is a personal choice, not a correction. If your goals are realistic and filler suits them, it can make a meaningful difference; if it is not the right option for you, she will say so plainly rather than recommend a treatment she does not believe will help. The point of a consultation is the right answer for you, not a booking.
How long does lip filler last?
Lip filler is temporary and is maintained over time. The change is visible immediately, but the lips look their best once swelling settles, usually within about two weeks. From there, the body gradually breaks down the hyaluronic acid. Because the lips are mobile, filler here tends to soften a little faster than in some other areas, so most people choose to top up periodically to maintain their shape and fullness. Longevity varies from person to person with metabolism and lifestyle. No result is permanent — maintaining it over time is part of the treatment.
Can lip fillers be dissolved if I do not like them?
Yes. Because lip enhancement uses hyaluronic-acid filler, it can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase. This makes the treatment reversible, which is reassuring if you change your mind, want an adjustment, or in the rare event of a complication. It is one of the reasons HA filler is favoured for the lips, and one of the reasons it matters to choose a medically trained injector and a clinic equipped to manage complications. Reversibility is discussed openly at consultation so you understand your options before any treatment.
Why are my lips so swollen after filler?
The lips swell more readily than most areas of the face, so swelling for a day or two after filler is completely normal and part of the healing process. Your lips can look larger than the final result at first, which settles over the following days. A little bruising or tenderness is also possible. This is why the true result is best judged once swelling has resolved, usually around two weeks. We give you aftercare advice to help, and most people prefer not to schedule lip enhancement immediately before a big event.
Does it hurt to have lip filler?
The lips are sensitive, but the treatment is well tolerated by most patients. A topical anaesthetic can be applied beforehand, and most lip fillers also contain local anaesthetic, so you typically feel a small scratch and some pressure rather than significant pain. Comfort is part of the plan, and the treatment itself is quick. If you have any concerns about discomfort, raise them at consultation so the team can talk you through what to expect and how it is managed.
Should very thin lips be filled in one session?
Usually not. For naturally thin lips, Dr Nina often recommends building gradually over more than one session rather than placing a large amount in a single visit. This keeps the result natural, lets the tissue adjust, and avoids the over-filled look that comes from doing too much too quickly. You can always add a little more once the first treatment has settled; you cannot easily undo over-filling in the moment, though HA filler can be dissolved if needed. A staged, conservative build is the safer route to fuller lips that still look like yours.
Can uneven or asymmetric lips be balanced with filler?
Often, yes. Many people have lips that are slightly uneven side to side, or an upper and lower lip that are out of proportion with one another. Small, precise amounts of HA filler can improve this balance without significantly changing the overall size of the lips. The aim is harmony rather than volume. As with all lip work, Dr Nina assesses your lips in proportion to the rest of your face and is honest about what is realistically achievable — mild asymmetry can usually be improved, though no result is perfectly symmetrical, since natural faces never are.

"I have never had laser treatment before but having just turned 47, I have started to notice ageing on my face and neck. I was feeling self conscious about the sagginess in my neck and the lines around my lips and chin, I didn’t want harsh surgery, so I decided to try Endolift, a non evasive treatment, with Dr Nina Bal. I cannot recommend Dr Nina, Endolift and her clinic enough. From the moment I entered the clinic I was made to feel relaxed and welcome. Dr Nina and her team were amazing throughout, the treatment was relatively quick and pain free. It has only been a week but I can already see fantastic results, and love what the treatment has done for me. Thanks Dr Nina, I will definitely be back."

If I could leave more than five stars I would! Dr Nina’s clinic is warm and welcoming, in a beautiful location close to Knightsbridge station. I had cheek fillers for the first time and my face was numbed prior. I was expecting to find it a little uncomfortable but honestly there was barely any pain at all. The needles are so fine, and Dr Nina was very gentle. I will be back as I know I am in good hands!

Dr. Nina got my Botox perfectly right on the first visit. I have seen many injecting doctors over the years, I have tricky uneven brows - one is higher than the other and I normally like to balance and lift them slightly. It’s a difficult job for many doctors. The results of treatment with Dr. Nina are just what I was looking for, if not better than expected and I didn’t even need the top up/ correction appointment! I got so many compliments on how well and fresh I look!! So happy with the results, Dr. Nina certainly knows how to do a good Botox

Dr Nina is an excellent doctor and an absolute leader in facial aesthetics and dentistry. Would highly recommend!
Lips are one of the most over-filled areas in aesthetics — the “duck lip” look comes from too much filler placed too quickly. Dr Nina’s approach is the opposite: conservative amounts, respect for your natural proportions, and the honesty to say when filler is not the answer.
Natural, less is more
Sultry yet natural lips designed for your face — usually with the lower lip a little fuller than the upper, in proportion to everything around it. Never an over-filled, “done” look.
Conservative & built gradually
For thin lips, building over more than one session keeps the result natural. Dr Nina would rather under-fill and refine than place too much in one visit.
Honest & reversible
If lip filler is not right for you, we say so. And because it is hyaluronic acid, it can be dissolved if you are unhappy or in the rare event of a complication.
