Treatment summary
Hyalase at a glance
Hyalase is the brand name for hyaluronidase, a prescription-only enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid. It is used to dissolve and correct hyaluronic-acid dermal filler — for example when a result is over-filled, lumpy, has migrated, looks unnatural, or in an urgent situation such as a suspected vascular complication. It is not a skin booster and does not add volume; a patch test is required and suitability is confirmed at consultation.

The treatment
What is Hyalase?
Hyalase is a prescription-only formulation of hyaluronidase, an enzyme that causes the breakdown of hyaluronic acid. Because most modern dermal fillers are made from hyaluronic acid, hyaluronidase acts as a reversal agent: when it is injected into an area of filler, it breaks the filler down so the body can absorb it. This makes it an important safety tool in aesthetic medicine and a way to correct results that are not what was intended.
Patients seek Hyalase for several reasons — filler that looks over-filled, lumpy or uneven, product that has migrated from where it was placed, an unnatural or unbalanced appearance, or simply a wish to start again before having a treatment redone. It is also used by experienced clinicians to manage rarer complications such as a suspected vascular occlusion, where prompt action matters. It is not a treatment to improve skin quality — for that, see our Profhilo® and skin-booster options.
Hyalase requires care: it can also break down your skin’s own naturally occurring hyaluronic acid in the treated area, which is usually temporary. A patch test is required beforehand, and treatment is only carried out after a full consultation. If you are considering correcting or refreshing filler in areas such as the lips, cheeks or tear troughs, Dr Nina will advise the safest plan.
What it can correct
What Hyalase can correct
Hyalase is used to dissolve and correct hyaluronic-acid dermal filler — it is not a skin booster and does not add volume.
Honest suitability
Is Hyalase right for you?
Hyalase is not for everyone — and we will tell you if it is not the best option for you. Final suitability is always confirmed at consultation, with a patch test required.
Often well suited
- Hyaluronic-acid filler that is over-filled or “overdone”
- Lumpy, uneven or palpable filler you would like corrected
- Filler that has migrated from where it was placed
- An unnatural or unbalanced result from previous filler
- Wanting to dissolve old filler before having an area redone
- Management of a filler complication by an experienced clinician
May not be suitable
- Non-hyaluronic-acid filler (Hyalase does not dissolve these)
- Known allergy to hyaluronidase or a positive patch test
- Wanting to add volume or improve skin quality (this is not a booster)
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding (subject to clinic policy)
- Active infection or skin condition in the treatment area
- Certain medical conditions identified at consultation
The process
How Hyalase works, step by step
- Consultation & assessmentDr Nina or the team assess the area, your filler history, medical history and goals, and confirm whether Hyalase is appropriate and what to expect.
- Patch testA patch test is carried out before treatment to check for sensitivity to hyaluronidase, in line with safe practice.
- Numbing & preparationA numbing cream is usually applied for your comfort and the area is cleansed and mapped.
- Hyaluronidase injectionHyalase is injected precisely into the area of filler; more than one session is sometimes needed depending on the amount and type of filler.
- Aftercare & reviewYou receive tailored aftercare advice. The area is reviewed as it settles, and any plan to re-treat is discussed once it has fully recovered.
“A less-is-more philosophy: sometimes the most natural result starts with carefully dissolving what isn’t working — then rebuilding only what you need.”
The Facial Sculpting approach · Dr Nina BalBefore treatment
What happens at your consultation
A consultation is required before Hyalase. During your initial consultation with Dr Nina and her team the area is assessed, your filler and medical history reviewed, and a patch test arranged. You will be talked through the procedure in detail — what to expect during and after — and given the opportunity to ask questions.
The consultation covers your medical history, an assessment of the existing filler, your suitability and any contraindications, realistic expected outcomes, the patch-test requirement, aftercare, and confirmation of your individual plan and price.
Results & recovery
What to expect afterwards
Hyalase involves minimal downtime, though it is normal for the treated area to look swollen or bruised initially as the filler breaks down and any reaction settles. Swelling, bruising or redness may occur and generally subsides within a few days. You receive aftercare guidance tailored to your treatment.
Results: the filler usually begins to dissolve within 24–48 hours, with the full effect becoming clear over the following days as swelling settles. The breakdown of the dermal filler is permanent; any reduction of your own natural hyaluronic acid in the area is usually temporary and recovers within days. If you plan to be re-treated, this is done only once the area has fully recovered.
Typical results timeline
The filler begins to break down; some swelling or bruising is normal.
Swelling settles and the true result of the dissolving becomes clearer.
The area has usually recovered; your own hyaluronic acid replenishes.
Any plan to re-do filler is carried out only after full recovery.
Safety
Possible risks & side effects
As with any injectable, Hyalase carries some risks. Possible side effects may include swelling, bruising, redness or tenderness at the treated area, which usually settle within a few days. Allergic reaction to hyaluronidase is possible, which is why a patch test is required beforehand. Because Hyalase can also break down your own naturally occurring hyaluronic acid in the area, this treatment is only carried out after a full consultation.
Careful assessment, a patch test and an experienced clinician are central to safe filler dissolving and correction. If anything is unexpected after treatment, you can contact the clinic for advice.
Honest limitations
What Hyalase cannot do
- It only dissolves hyaluronic-acid filler — not permanent or non-HA fillers.
- It is not a skin booster and does not add volume or improve skin quality.
- It can temporarily reduce your own natural hyaluronic acid in the area.
- More than one session is sometimes needed depending on the filler.

Amazing results! So so happy with my facial profile balancing!
Dr Nina is an excellent doctor and an absolute leader in facial aesthetics and dentistry. Would highly recommend!
If I could leave more than five stars I would! Dr Nina’s clinic is warm and welcoming, in a beautiful location close to Knightsbridge station. I had cheek fillers for the first time and my face was numbed prior. I was expecting to find it a little uncomfortable but honestly there was barely any pain at all. The needles are so fine, and Dr Nina was very gentle. I will be back as I know I am in good hands!
Extremely professional and a lovely person. Would recommend dr Nina to everyone
Dr Nina provided an amazing service and made me feel really comfortable. Highly recommend!!
Your questions
Hyalase FAQs
What is Hyalase used for?
Hyalase (hyaluronidase) is an injectable enzyme used to dissolve hyaluronic-acid dermal filler. It is used to correct filler that is over-filled, lumpy, uneven or migrated, to address an unnatural result, to remove old filler before re-treatment, and — by experienced clinicians — to help manage filler complications.
Is Hyalase a skin booster?
No. Hyalase is not a skin booster and does not add volume or improve skin quality. It is a prescription-only enzyme used specifically to break down hyaluronic-acid filler. If you are interested in improving skin quality, treatments such as Profhilo® or polynucleotides are designed for that instead.
How does Hyalase work?
Hyalase contains hyaluronidase, an enzyme that breaks down hyaluronic acid. Because most modern dermal fillers are hyaluronic-acid based, injecting hyaluronidase into the area causes the filler to break down so the body can absorb it, reversing or reducing its effect.
Can Hyalase dissolve all types of filler?
Hyalase only dissolves hyaluronic-acid (HA) fillers, which are the most common type. It does not break down non-HA or permanent fillers such as those based on other materials. At consultation Dr Nina will establish what type of filler you have, where this is known, and advise accordingly.
Why might I need my filler dissolved?
Common reasons include filler that looks over-filled or “overdone”, lumps or unevenness, product that has migrated from where it was placed, an unnatural or unbalanced appearance, or wanting to start again before having an area redone. Hyaluronidase is also used to manage rarer filler complications.
Is a patch test required before Hyalase?
Yes. A patch test is required before treatment to check for sensitivity to hyaluronidase, because an allergic reaction is possible. This is part of safe practice, and treatment is only carried out after a full consultation and an acceptable patch test.
How quickly does Hyalase work?
Results can often be seen within 24–48 hours, although it may take a few days for the full effect to be clear as the filler breaks down and any swelling settles. Sometimes more than one session is needed depending on the amount and type of filler.
Is Hyalase treatment painful?
Most patients experience some discomfort during the injection, but a numbing cream is usually applied beforehand to reduce this. Any tenderness afterwards is generally mild and short-lived. Your practitioner will explain exactly what to expect.
Are there any side effects of Hyalase?
Swelling, bruising or redness may occur and generally subside within a few days. Allergic reaction to hyaluronidase is possible, which is why a patch test is required. Hyalase can also temporarily break down some of your own natural hyaluronic acid in the area, so it is only carried out after a full consultation.
Will dissolving filler affect my own skin?
Hyalase can break down your skin’s own naturally occurring hyaluronic acid in the treated area as well as the filler. This is usually temporary and the area is expected to recover within a few days. This is one of the reasons a full consultation and careful technique matter.
How much filler can be dissolved in one session?
This depends on the amount and type of filler present and how it responds. Some areas resolve in a single session, while others — or larger amounts of filler — may need more than one treatment. Dr Nina will give you a realistic expectation at consultation.
Can I have new filler after dissolving?
Yes, but not immediately. It is best to allow the area to settle and fully recover — usually a couple of weeks — before any new filler is placed, so the result can be assessed accurately. Dr Nina will advise on sensible timing for re-treatment of areas such as the lips or cheeks.
Is Hyalase safe?
Hyaluronidase is a well-established tool in aesthetic medicine when used by a trained clinician after proper assessment and a patch test. As with any injectable, possible side effects and the risk of allergic reaction are discussed in full at consultation, and Dr Nina will only proceed where she believes it is appropriate for you.
What if I think I have a filler complication?
If you are worried about a possible filler complication — for example unusual pain, blanching or changes in the skin after filler — seek prompt advice from a qualified medical practitioner. Hyaluronidase is used by experienced clinicians to manage certain urgent filler complications, and timely assessment is important.
How much does Hyalase cost in London?
Hyalase at Facial Sculpting starts from £520 per session, following a consultation and patch test. More than one session is occasionally needed depending on the filler. Your exact plan and price are confirmed at consultation.
Is a consultation required before Hyalase?
Yes. A consultation is required to assess the area and your filler history, review your medical history, arrange the patch test, confirm whether Hyalase is appropriate, and agree your individual plan and price.
