What is jaw filler?
Jaw filler is a non-surgical option for patients who want a more defined jawline without surgery. We place injectable, cross-linked hyaluronic-acid (HA) dermal filler at carefully chosen points along the jaw angle and the line of the jaw. The filler gives structural support where the natural bone and soft tissue read as soft or flat, so the lower face gains a cleaner, straighter jawline and a sharper angle between jaw and neck.
A jawline can look undefined for different reasons: a naturally soft or narrow jaw angle, age-related changes in bone and fat that blur the line of the jaw, or an unbalanced chin that shortens how far the jawline appears to run. Filler placed with precision addresses the structural side of this. Dr Nina’s approach is deliberately less is more: enough to define and balance, in proportion with the chin, cheeks and neck, never a heavy, widened or obviously augmented jaw.
Jaw filler treats the structural side of jawline definition. Where the concern is descending tissue and early jowls, tightening treatments may serve you better, and where a wide jaw comes from an enlarged masseter muscle, jawline slimming is the right tool instead. What happens at your consultation
A consultation is recommended before jaw filler. During your initial consultation with Dr Nina and her team you will have a facial-anatomy assessment, your medical history reviewed and your suitability confirmed. You will be talked through the procedure in detail, what to expect during and after, and given the opportunity to ask questions.
The consultation covers your goals, an assessment of the jaw in the context of chin, neck and whole face, realistic expected outcomes, alternatives if filler is not the right tool, the possibility of dissolving with hyalase, aftercare, and confirmation of your individual plan and price.

What to expect afterwards
Jaw filler involves minimal downtime, and most patients return to normal activities the same day. Swelling is common in the first day or two and a little bruising or tenderness is possible; bruising usually fades within one to two weeks and swelling settles as the filler integrates. Your team provides tailored aftercare advice.
Results & longevity: the change in definition is visible immediately, though the final, settled look is best judged at around two to four weeks. Jaw filler is not permanent, it is gradually broken down by the body and typically lasts around 12–18 months, after which a top-up maintains the result. Duration varies with the product used, your metabolism and lifestyle.

Safety
Possible risks & side effects
As with any dermal filler, jaw filler carries some risks. Common, temporary effects include swelling, bruising, redness, tenderness and small lumps that usually settle as the filler integrates. Less common risks, such as infection, asymmetry, or filler placed unevenly, are reduced by careful technique and discussed individually at consultation.
A rare but serious risk of any facial filler is accidental injection into a blood vessel (vascular occlusion), which is why an experienced, medically trained injector and a clinic stocked with hyalase matter. HA filler is reversible: if you are unhappy with the result, or in the event of a complication, it can be dissolved. If anything is unexpected after treatment, contact the clinic for advice.
Honest limitations
What jaw filler cannot do
- It adds structure, it cannot tighten significantly loose skin or lift established jowls.
- It cannot slim a jaw that is wide because of masseter muscle, that is jawline slimming’s job.
- It will not, on its own, correct a significantly recessed chin, chin sculpting addresses that.
- It is temporary, maintenance is needed to keep the result.

What is the difference between jaw filler and jawline slimming?
They solve opposite problems. Jaw filler adds structure to a soft or undefined jawline using dermal filler. Jawline slimming uses muscle-relaxing injections to reduce a wide jaw caused by an enlarged masseter muscle, often linked to teeth grinding (bruxism). Your assessment identifies which, if either, fits your anatomy.
Does jaw filler hurt?
Most patients find jaw filler very tolerable. The skin can be numbed with a topical anaesthetic, and most HA fillers also contain local anaesthetic, so you typically feel pressure and the odd scratch rather than significant pain. A cannula can be used in some areas to further reduce discomfort.
How long does jaw filler last?
Jaw filler typically lasts around 12 to 18 months. The jawline is a relatively stable, structural area, so results tend to hold well compared with more mobile areas. Longevity varies with the product used, your metabolism and lifestyle, and a top-up maintains the result over time.
Will jaw filler look natural?
When placed conservatively along the natural line of the jaw, filler should read as definition you could always have had, not as an added-on jaw. Dr Nina works to a less-is-more philosophy and plans the jawline in proportion to your chin, neck and whole face, so the result balances rather than changes you.
Can jaw filler be dissolved?
Yes. Because we use hyaluronic-acid filler, jaw filler can be dissolved with an enzyme called hyaluronidase (hyalase). This means the treatment is reversible, useful if you change your mind, want an adjustment, or in the rare event of a complication. See our hyalase page for more.
How much filler do I need for my jawline?
Many patients start with 1ml and add an additional syringe only where the plan genuinely needs it. Because the jawline is a long structure, the right quantity varies more than in smaller areas; Dr Nina would rather start conservatively and refine at review than overbuild in one visit.
Can jaw filler help with jowls?
Filler can slightly soften the appearance of very early jowl shadows by restoring the line either side of them, but it cannot lift descended tissue. Where jowls or laxity are the real concern, tightening treatments such as Endolift® or a combination plan are discussed instead, and we will tell you plainly which applies to you.
Is jaw filler suitable for men?
Yes. The treatment is planned to your anatomy and goals, which differ from face to face: some patients want a stronger, straighter line, others only a subtle sharpening of the jaw-to-neck angle. The assessment and dosing are tailored accordingly at consultation.
Will my jaw be swollen after filler?
Some swelling is normal in the first day or two and is part of the healing process, and a little bruising or tenderness is also possible. It usually settles as the filler integrates over the following weeks. We give you aftercare advice to help minimise swelling, such as avoiding strenuous exercise for the first day.
How long does jaw filler take to settle?
You see an immediate change, but the filler continues to settle and integrate over roughly two to four weeks. We recommend judging your final result then, which is also when any review, top-up or additional syringe is best arranged.
Is jaw filler safe?
Hyaluronic-acid jaw filler has a good track record when performed by a trained medical injector. The main risks, swelling, bruising and, rarely, vascular complications, are minimised by careful technique, sound anatomical knowledge and a clinic that stocks hyalase.
