"I am so thrilled with the results from my recent procedures with Dr. Nina. Initially I was prescribed a bespoke skin care plan using medical grade products from which I began to see immediate results. On Dr Nina’s advice I then returned for Botox, Profhilo and Endolift. She has such a wonderful Calm, friendly and reassuring nature that makes you feel completely at ease. The procedures were painless which is a definite credit to her skill and expertise. The results have been amazing..... I love the even texture and glow my (Menopausal) skin now has. My saggy jawline has disappeared leaving a firmer, leaner profile. Just wonderful... I can’t recommend Dr Nina and her Team highly enough."

The treatment
What is BBL® HEROic™?
BBL® HEROic™ is the next evolution in light-based rejuvenation — Sciton’s most advanced BroadBand Light® (BBL) platform, enhanced by intelligent software that delivers light quickly, precisely and comfortably. It treats sun damage, pigmentation, redness and textural concerns by sending pulses of broadband light into the skin. The light is absorbed by unwanted pigment and by the tiny vessels behind redness, breaking them down so the body can clear them, while controlled warmth in the deeper layers helps support collagen and improve tone.
The result is brighter, clearer, more even-looking skin with a healthier glow. Because the energy is delivered through the skin surface — protected throughout by CoolComfort™ cooling — BBL® HEROic™ is non-invasive with minimal downtime, and many patients see a visible difference within one or two sessions. At Facial Sculpting it is used on the face, on the face, neck and chest together, or on the hands, with a course usually recommended for the most even, lasting result.
BBL® HEROic™ is one of several options for skin tone, clarity and rejuvenation — see our advanced laser & radiofrequency treatments for how it compares with resurfacing lasers and peels, and the honest limitations below for where another route may suit your skin better.
Concerns it can help
What does BBL® HEROic™ address?
BBL® HEROic™ is designed to improve skin tone and clarity — pigmentation, redness and sun damage — rather than to lift, tighten or add volume.
Honest suitability
Is BBL® HEROic™ right for you?
BBL® HEROic™ is not for everyone — and we will tell you if it is not the best option for you. Final suitability is always confirmed at consultation.
Often well suited
- Sun damage, age spots, sunspots and brown patches
- Redness, rosacea or surface-level broken capillaries
- Uneven skin tone and a dull complexion
- Wanting brighter, clearer skin with minimal downtime
- Happy to follow a short course and protect skin from the sun
- Realistic expectations of gradual, natural-looking improvement
May not be suitable
- A recent tan or sun exposure on the treatment area
- Very deep or sun-reactive skin tones (assessed individually for pigment safety)
- Active infection, cold sore or skin condition in the area
- Pregnancy or breastfeeding (subject to clinic policy)
- Recent isotretinoin (Roaccutane) use or photosensitising medication
- Pigmentation such as melasma that may need a different approach
The process
How BBL® HEROic™ works, step by step
- Consultation & assessmentDr Nina or the team assess your skin type, concerns, medical history and goals, and confirm whether BBL® HEROic™ is suitable or whether another option is safer or more effective.
- Cleanse & protectThe skin is cleansed, a clear gel is applied to help it absorb the light, and protective eyewear is provided.
- Broadband light deliveredDr Nina or a trained member of her team glides the handpiece across the skin, delivering pulses of light while CoolComfort™ cooling keeps the surface comfortable, over around 20–30 minutes.
- Skin respondsPigment and vessels absorb the light and begin to break down so the body can clear them, while controlled warmth supports collagen in the following weeks.
- Aftercare & your courseYou receive tailored aftercare — including diligent sun protection — and any further sessions are scheduled, as a course is usually recommended.
“A less-is-more philosophy: BBL® HEROic™ only when it’s genuinely right for your skin — for a clearer, brighter complexion that still looks like you.”
The Facial Sculpting approach · Dr Nina BalBefore treatment
What happens at your consultation
A consultation is recommended before BBL® HEROic™. During your initial consultation with Dr Nina and her team you will have a clinical skin assessment and your suitability for treatment reviewed. You will be talked through the procedure in detail — what to expect during and after — and given the opportunity to ask questions.
The consultation covers your medical history, your skin type and how it is likely to respond, your suitability and any contraindications, realistic expected outcomes, alternatives if BBL® HEROic™ is not ideal, aftercare and sun protection, and confirmation of your individual plan and price.
Results & recovery
What to expect afterwards
BBL® HEROic™ involves minimal downtime, which is one of the reasons it is so popular — most patients return to normal activities straight away. It is normal for the skin to feel warm, like mild sunburn, for around 30–60 minutes, and to look a little flushed. Darker pigmented spots often look temporarily darker for a few days before they flake away and the skin appears more even.
Results & longevity: a week or two after a session the skin typically looks more even, brighter and smoother, with visible improvement often seen in just one or two treatments and continuing over the following weeks as collagen responds. Because sun exposure and ageing cause new pigment over time, results are not permanent; periodic maintenance treatments help keep the skin clear, and diligent sun protection is essential. Outcomes vary from person to person.
Typical results timeline
Skin feels warm and may look flushed; warmth usually settles within 30–60 minutes.
Darker spots may look temporarily darker, then begin to flake away, leaving a more even tone.
Skin appears brighter, clearer and smoother; results from a single session become visible.
Tone and clarity continue to improve session by session, with collagen supporting texture over time.
Safety
Possible risks & side effects
BBL® HEROic™ is non-invasive and generally well tolerated, with CoolComfort™ cooling protecting the skin surface throughout. Common, temporary effects include warmth, redness, mild swelling and darkening of pigmented spots before they clear. Less common effects — such as blistering, temporary lightening or darkening of the skin, or, rarely, scarring — are more likely with sun-exposed or unsuitable skin and are discussed individually at consultation.
Careful assessment of your skin type and recent sun exposure, appropriate settings and an experienced practitioner are central to a safe result with light-based treatments. Avoiding sun and tanning before and after treatment, and using high-factor SPF, reduce avoidable risks. If anything is unexpected after treatment, you can contact the clinic for advice.
Honest limitations
What BBL® HEROic™ cannot do
- It does not lift, tighten significant laxity or add volume — it improves tone and clarity.
- It is not suitable on recently tanned or sun-exposed skin, for safety reasons.
- Some pigmentation, such as melasma, can be unpredictable and may need a different approach.
- It does not stop future sun damage — ongoing sun protection and maintenance are needed.

What our patients say about Facial Sculpting Clinic
Real reviews from patients who chose Dr Nina Bal and the Facial Sculpting team.
Delighted with my results and the fantastic skin- care after plan Dr Nina put together. Dr Nina and her associate are fabulous team
What a great specialist Dr Nina is. She has treated me over the years and she keeps my face natural, glowing and beautiful. People think I don’t age. All thanks to her. Having few treatments yesterday, despite many injections no blue marks or nasty bumps on my face on the 2 nd day. Not even under eyes. That’s a true professional!! Most of the doctors are scared and uncomfortable with Botox injections under eyes, but not Nina, she always executes and delivers great results.
I had a fabulous experience with Dr Nina. I had a Botox treatment which was the best I’ve had. She was very thorough and took time and care during the treatment to tailor it to my exact needs. I will certainly be returning for more treatments! A true professional who really knows her stuff.
I had my tear trough filler done with Dr Nina and the results were simply incredible. She is so lovely and caring and really puts you at ease. I will be going back time and time again! She is the best!!
Dr Nina is an artist! Do not hesitate to book an appointment, you will have an amazing experience. I have been going to Nina for the past 4 years. I have had Botox, fillers, under eye bags removed, most recently had a V Soft Line Thread Lower Face Lift (non surgical procedure). I have never felt any pain with any of my treatments or procedures. Nina is so gentle you don’t feel a thing, always caring, always advises the best solution for your face type and your problem area. Every visit I feel so welcomed, like a real VIP
Your questions
BBL® HEROic™ FAQs
What is BBL® HEROic™?
BBL® HEROic™ is the latest evolution of Sciton’s BroadBand Light® (BBL) technology — a high-speed, intelligent light treatment. It delivers pulses of broadband light to target pigmentation, redness and sun damage while gently warming the skin to support collagen, helping to even tone and restore radiance with minimal downtime.
Is BBL® HEROic™ a laser?
Not exactly. A laser uses a single wavelength of light, whereas BBL uses a broad spectrum of light that can be filtered to target different concerns such as brown pigment or redness. This makes it versatile for sun damage, age spots and vascular concerns, and Dr Nina selects the right settings for your skin.
What happens during a BBL® HEROic™ treatment?
A clear gel is applied to help the skin absorb the light, and protective eyewear is given. Dr Nina or a trained member of her team gently glides the handpiece across the skin, delivering pulses of light while CoolComfort™ cooling keeps the surface comfortable. The light breaks down pigment and vessels so the body can clear them, while warmth supports collagen over time.
What skin concerns can it treat?
BBL® HEROic™ can help age spots, sunspots and brown spots, freckles, small veins and broken capillaries, rosacea and redness, dullness, and uneven tone, as well as supporting smoother texture. It is a tone-and-clarity treatment rather than one for lifting or volume.
What areas can be treated?
At Facial Sculpting BBL® HEROic™ is offered for the face; the face, neck and chest together; or the hands — the areas most affected by sun damage. Your plan is tailored to your concerns at consultation.
How long does a session take?
A treatment typically takes around 20–30 minutes depending on the size of the area being treated, which is one reason it is often described as quick and convenient.
Is BBL® HEROic™ painful?
It is generally well tolerated and most patients describe it as a quick, light snap on the skin that fades swiftly as the handpiece pulses. Thanks to CoolComfort™ technology, which cools the skin surface during treatment, topical anaesthetic is not usually needed. The skin may feel warm for around 30–60 minutes afterwards.
Is there any downtime?
Downtime is minimal — most patients return to normal activities straight away. The skin may feel warm and look a little flushed, and darker pigmented spots often look temporarily darker for a few days before they flake away to reveal more even skin.
When will I see results and how long do they last?
A week or two after your first session the skin usually looks more even, brighter and smoother, with visible results often seen in just one or two treatments and continuing over the following weeks. Because sun and ageing create new pigment over time, results are not permanent; periodic maintenance and diligent sun protection help keep skin clear.
How many sessions will I need?
A series of around three treatments, spaced a few weeks apart, is typically recommended, after which periodic maintenance treatments help keep the skin healthy and glowing. Dr Nina and her team will create a plan based on your skin and goals.
Can I have BBL® HEROic™ if I have a tan?
No — BBL should not be performed on recently tanned or sun-exposed skin, as this increases the risk of burns and pigment changes. You should avoid sun exposure and self-tan before treatment, and protect your skin with high-factor SPF afterwards. Your recent sun exposure is checked at consultation.
Is BBL® HEROic™ safe for all skin tones?
BBL is best suited to lighter and medium skin tones; in deeper or sun-reactive skin, light-based treatments carry a higher risk of pigment change and must be assessed carefully. Dr Nina will evaluate your skin type and may recommend an alternative such as a thulium laser or a gentler approach if BBL is not ideal for you.
Is BBL® HEROic™ good for rosacea and redness?
Yes — BBL is well suited to diffuse redness, flushing and surface-level broken capillaries, and can improve the appearance of rosacea, because the light targets the small vessels behind redness. A course is usually recommended, and Dr Nina will advise whether it is right for your skin.
Will BBL® HEROic™ help melasma?
Melasma is a more complex, hormonally driven pigmentation that can be unpredictable with light and heat, and sometimes worsens. Dr Nina will assess your pigmentation carefully and may recommend a gentler or different approach rather than standard BBL if melasma is your main concern.
Can BBL® HEROic™ be combined with other treatments?
Yes. During your consultation Dr Nina will assess your skin and advise whether layering or combination therapy is appropriate — for example pairing BBL with resurfacing such as Lutronic LaseMD Ultra, or calming Dermalux LED, as part of a wider skin-health plan.
How much does BBL® HEROic™ cost in London?
At Facial Sculpting it starts from £600 for the hands, £690 for the face, and £1,290 for the face, neck and chest together. A course is usually recommended; your exact plan and price are confirmed at consultation.
Is a consultation required first?
A consultation is recommended to assess your skin type and recent sun exposure, review your medical history and goals, confirm whether BBL® HEROic™ is suitable (or whether another option is safer), and agree your individual plan and price.
