Treatment summary

Radiofrequency Microneedling at a glance

Radiofrequency microneedling is an advanced skin-rejuvenation treatment that combines fine microneedles with controlled radiofrequency (RF) energy. The needles create tiny micro-channels in the skin while the RF delivers gentle heat into the deeper layers, together prompting fibroblast cells to produce fresh collagen and elastin. It is designed to improve firmness, texture and clarity and to soften scarring — results build progressively and vary from person to person.

The treatment

What is Radiofrequency Microneedling?

Radiofrequency microneedling is an advanced skin-rejuvenation treatment that combines precision microneedling with controlled radiofrequency (RF) energy. This dual-action approach works both on the surface and within the deeper layers of the skin: very fine needles create tiny micro-channels while RF energy is delivered to a controlled depth, warming the dermis. Together they trigger the body’s natural repair response, encouraging fibroblast cells to produce fresh collagen and elastin.

Over the following weeks this rebuilding helps to improve skin firmness, texture and overall clarity while supporting natural skin renewal. It is a particularly good choice where static lines, enlarged pores, uneven texture or hypertrophic and acne scarring are the main concerns, because the combination of needling and heat reaches deeper than needling alone. Results develop progressively rather than instantly, so it suits patients who want smoother, tighter, more refined skin and are happy to follow a short course.

Radiofrequency microneedling is one of several energy-based options for skin quality and firmness — see our advanced laser & radiofrequency treatments for how it compares with microneedling without RF and resurfacing lasers, and the honest limitations below for where another route may suit you better.

Concerns it can help

What does Radiofrequency Microneedling address?

Radiofrequency microneedling is designed to improve skin quality — texture, firmness, fine lines and scarring — rather than to lift or add volume.

Honest suitability

Is Radiofrequency Microneedling right for you?

Radiofrequency microneedling is not for everyone — and we will tell you if it is not the best option for you. Final suitability is always confirmed at consultation.

Often well suited

  • Uneven skin texture, roughness or enlarged pores
  • Acne scarring or hypertrophic (raised) scarring
  • Fine lines and early loss of firmness
  • Wanting collagen stimulation with minimal downtime
  • Happy to follow a course of at least three sessions
  • Realistic expectations of a gradual, progressive improvement

May not be suitable

  • Active acne breakout, infection or inflammation in the area
  • A history of keloid (rather than hypertrophic) scarring — assessed individually
  • Pregnancy or breastfeeding (subject to clinic policy)
  • Certain implanted electronic devices such as a pacemaker
  • Recent isotretinoin (Roaccutane) use or certain medical conditions
  • Expecting an immediate, surgery-level lift or skin removal

The process

How Radiofrequency Microneedling works, step by step

  1. Consultation & assessmentDr Nina or the team assess your skin, concerns, medical history and goals, and confirm whether radiofrequency microneedling is suitable or whether another option is safer or more effective.
  2. Cleanse & numbThe skin is thoroughly cleansed and a topical numbing cream is applied so the treatment is comfortable.
  3. Microneedling + radiofrequencyThe handpiece delivers fine needles to a controlled depth while radiofrequency energy warms the deeper layers, creating micro-channels and gentle thermal stimulation across the treatment area.
  4. Collagen response beginsYour skin’s natural repair process is activated, with fibroblasts producing new collagen and elastin over the following weeks.
  5. Aftercare & your courseYou receive tailored aftercare advice, and your remaining sessions are scheduled (a course of at least three) so results can build progressively.

“A less-is-more philosophy: radiofrequency microneedling only when it’s genuinely right for your skin — for results that look like you, refined.”

Before treatment

What happens at your consultation

A consultation is recommended before radiofrequency microneedling. During your initial consultation with Dr Nina and her team you will have a clinical skin assessment and your suitability for treatment reviewed. You will be talked through the procedure in detail — what to expect during and after — and given the opportunity to ask questions.

The consultation covers your medical history, a skin assessment, your suitability and any contraindications, realistic expected outcomes, alternatives if this treatment is not ideal, aftercare, and confirmation of your individual plan and price.

Results & recovery

What to expect afterwards

Radiofrequency microneedling involves minimal downtime. Immediately after treatment the skin is usually pink or red with a warm, mild sunburn-like sensation, and this typically settles within about 24–48 hours; some patients notice slight dryness or fine flaking over the following days. Most people return to normal activities quickly and can wear mineral make-up once the skin has calmed, following the aftercare you are given.

Results & longevity: because the treatment works by stimulating your own collagen and elastin, results develop progressively over the weeks following each session rather than appearing at once. Improvements are not permanent; a course is recommended for the best result and maintenance may be advised over time. Outcomes vary with skin type, age, lifestyle and the concern being treated.

Typical results timeline

First 24–48 hours

Redness and a warm, sunburn-like feel settle; the skin may feel tight or slightly dry.

Days 3–7

Any fine flaking resolves and skin looks fresher; make-up can usually be worn once calm.

Weeks 2–6

New collagen and elastin form; texture and firmness gradually improve.

Over the course

Results build session by session; optimal improvement develops over the weeks following your final session.

Safety

Possible risks & side effects

As with any medical aesthetic procedure, radiofrequency microneedling carries some risks. Common, temporary effects include redness, warmth, mild swelling, pinpoint bleeding, tightness and short-lived flaking at the treated area. Less common effects — such as bruising, prolonged redness, temporary changes in pigmentation or, rarely, infection — are discussed individually at consultation.

Careful patient selection, an appropriate device setting and an experienced practitioner are important for a safe, sensible result, particularly in deeper or darker skin tones where pigmentation must be managed carefully. If anything is unexpected after treatment, you can contact the clinic for advice.

Honest limitations

What Radiofrequency Microneedling cannot do

  • It cannot lift significant sagging or remove excess skin — it improves skin quality, not facial descent.
  • It does not add volume or replace injectable contouring or skin boosters.
  • It does not deliver instant change — results build over a course of sessions.
  • It cannot guarantee complete removal of scars; it aims to soften and refine them.

"I had EndoLift with Dr Nina at her clinic. I just wanted to share my experience With anyone who is looking to get endo lift or any other procedure done with Dr Nina. She is absolutely amazing so gentle and so kind she is so experienced in her field and knows whats best for you without trying to oversell you rather only whats needed. I was looking for this treatment for my double chin and picked the best place for it! it was a very comfortable treatment took about 30 mins. It permanently dissolves the fat there and tightens the area. She always checked on me to make sure im feeling ok. Its a week now and i can slowly see a difference im a little swollen and sore but the swelling is not noticeable to anyone. Cant wait for full results. Thank you Dr Nina."

If I could leave more than five stars I would! Dr Nina’s clinic is warm and welcoming, in a beautiful location close to Knightsbridge station. I had cheek fillers for the first time and my face was numbed prior. I was expecting to find it a little uncomfortable but honestly there was barely any pain at all. The needles are so fine, and Dr Nina was very gentle. I will be back as I know I am in good hands!

Your questions

Radiofrequency Microneedling FAQs

What is radiofrequency microneedling?

Radiofrequency microneedling is an advanced skin-rejuvenation treatment that combines precision microneedling with controlled radiofrequency energy. Fine needles create tiny micro-channels in the skin while RF energy warms the deeper layers, together stimulating your own collagen and elastin to improve firmness, texture and clarity.

How does radiofrequency microneedling work?

A handpiece delivers very fine needles to a controlled depth and, at the same time, releases radiofrequency energy that gently heats the dermis. This dual action triggers the skin’s natural repair response, encouraging fibroblast cells to produce fresh collagen and elastin over the following weeks for smoother, tighter skin.

How is it different from ordinary microneedling?

Standard microneedling, such as our Skin Pen treatment, uses needles alone to create micro-channels at the surface. Radiofrequency microneedling adds controlled heat at a chosen depth, which can reach deeper into the dermis and gives an additional firming and tightening effect. Dr Nina will advise which is more appropriate for your skin and concern.

What skin concerns can it treat?

It is well suited to uneven texture, enlarged pores, fine lines, early loss of firmness and scarring — particularly acne scarring and hypertrophic (raised) scars. It is a skin-quality treatment rather than one for lifting sagging skin or adding volume.

What areas can be treated?

At Facial Sculpting the treatment is offered for the full face, or the full face and neck together in the combined plan. Your treatment plan is tailored to your concerns at consultation.

Does radiofrequency microneedling hurt?

A topical numbing cream is applied before treatment so most patients find it comfortable. You may feel warmth and a prickling or pressure sensation as the handpiece works across the skin. Any discomfort is generally mild and short-lived.

How much downtime is there?

Downtime is minimal. The skin is usually pink or red with a warm, mild sunburn-like feel for about 24–48 hours, and some patients notice slight dryness or fine flaking afterwards. Most people return to normal activities quickly and can wear mineral make-up once the skin has calmed.

How many sessions will I need?

A course of at least three sessions is usually recommended for the best result, spaced a few weeks apart. The exact number depends on your skin and the concern being treated, and is confirmed at consultation.

When will I see results?

Because the treatment works by stimulating your own collagen and elastin, results develop progressively over the weeks following each session rather than appearing immediately. Skin typically looks fresher within a week or two, with firmness and texture continuing to improve over the course.

How long do the results last?

Results are long-lasting but not permanent, as the skin continues to age naturally. By building new collagen, improvements can be maintained over time, and Dr Nina may recommend occasional maintenance sessions. Longevity varies with skin type, age and lifestyle.

Is radiofrequency microneedling good for acne scars?

Yes — it is one of the more effective non-surgical options for acne scarring, because the combination of micro-channels and controlled heat helps remodel scar tissue and stimulate fresh collagen. It aims to soften and refine scars rather than remove them completely, and a course is usually needed.

Is it safe for darker skin tones?

Radiofrequency microneedling can be suitable for a wide range of skin tones, and because much of the energy is delivered below the surface it can be a thoughtful choice for darker skin when performed carefully. Settings are adjusted to reduce the risk of pigment change, and your skin type is assessed at consultation.

Who is not suitable for radiofrequency microneedling?

It may not be appropriate during an active acne breakout, skin infection or inflammation in the area, during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with certain implanted electronic devices such as a pacemaker, after recent isotretinoin (Roaccutane) use, or with a history of keloid scarring. Suitability is always confirmed at consultation.

Can it be combined with other treatments?

Yes. Radiofrequency microneedling is often planned alongside skin boosters such as Profhilo® or polynucleotides, or sequenced with tightening treatments like InMode Contoura. Dr Nina will advise what is appropriate and safe to combine, and the right order.

How should I prepare and care for my skin afterwards?

You will be advised to come with clean skin and to avoid retinoids, exfoliating acids and excess sun for a short period before treatment. Afterwards, keep the skin clean and well moisturised, avoid heat, make-up and active skincare for the first day or two, and use a high-factor SPF — full aftercare is given at your appointment.

How much does radiofrequency microneedling cost in London?

At Facial Sculpting it starts from £600 for the full face and from £800 for the full face and neck together. A course of at least three sessions is usually recommended; your exact plan and price are confirmed at consultation.

Is a consultation required first?

A consultation is recommended to assess your skin, medical history and goals, confirm whether radiofrequency microneedling is suitable (or whether another option is better), and agree your individual plan and price.
