- Have you ever had eyebrow envy?
- Do you have to raise your eyebrows when you smile for a photo?
- Do you wonder whether your brows make your eyes look heavy?
If you answered yes to any of these three questions, then a brow lift might be what you are looking for.
To start with, your eyebrows are genetically determined. During the ageing process, your skin becomes less elastic and loses volume over time, while your face muscles simultaneously lose tone and firmness. Combine this with the effects of gravity, and you will soon realise that the upper third of your face tend to drop down and become saggy.
Low brows can make the eyes look heavy and even create a sad appearance. Higher brows, on the other hand, open up your eyes and instantly give you a fresher, younger and even more attractive look. In fact, women are perceived as more attractive with higher brows.
Non-surgical Brow Lift
A non-surgical brow lift is a cosmetic procedure that tightens and raises the skin on the upper third of your face, specifically the forehead and eyebrows. It can smooth out wrinkles between your brows, raise drooping eyebrows, open up your eyes and remove lines on your forehead.
The techniques Dr Nina uses are very effective and designed to give a very feminine, yet natural look. We promise you will never again have to raise your eyebrows for photos or raise your eyelids to apply make up!
Different types of Non-surgical Brow Lift
Before any treatments, Dr Nina offers a consultation to explain a variety of treatment options to achieve your desired results. During the consultation, Dr Nina will study your face and identify which eyebrow lift will best suit your face shape.
There are two kinds of eyebrow lift, depending on personal preference and age. The first one consists in applying a lift to the centre of the eyebrows, while the second option involves lifting the eyebrow’s outside tails.
The first option is recommended for our more mature clients, while the second is popular with younger women who want a sharper, sexier look.
Brow Lift with Botulinum toxin injections
Botulinum toxin injections are effective at relaxing certain muscles around the eyes and forehead to help create an overall lift in the eyebrows. This will result in your eyebrow height increasing a few millimetres, creating a more open eyed, fresh look.
However, the treatment does not simply aim to freeze facial muscles and expression. An expert practitioner like Dr Nina will always adjust the dynamics between facial muscles to improve the aesthetics of the face for a natural look.
On the day of the procedure, Dr Nina will assess the strength of your corrugator muscle, located near each eyebrow. Once the strength and exact location of this muscle are identified, she will precisely inject the botulinum toxin directly into your muscles. You may feel some discomfort during this injection, but it should only last for a couple of seconds. A topical anaesthetic may be applied to make the procedure more comfortable.
Brow Lift with PDO threads
Brow lift using PDO threads is another non-surgical, minimally invasive cosmetic procedure designed to provide a more youthful facial appearance without leaving scars and with minimal downtime. PDO threads are used to lift and tighten the eyebrows and the part of the face above the eyes to remove wrinkles, brow lines, and correct saggy or drooping eyebrow.
Dr Nina uses MINT PDO threads, the latest innovation from South Korea. They consist of a dissolvable suture made from a complex sugar called PDO (polydioxanone), which has been used in biomedical and pharmaceutical applications for many years because of its extremely safe profile.
This material is non-allergic and non-antigenic and is also completely biodegradable, meaning the body completely absorbs the PDO material over time.
This procedure consists in inserting the threads into the skin to lift it, providing an immediate rejuvenating effect. PDO threads also stimulates the production of collagen, which helps to regenerate the skin over time by increasing firmness, volume, and making the skin look younger.
Before the treatment, a strong topical numbing cream is applied. After 30 minutes the treatment area is thoroughly cleansed and prepped. Local anaesthetic is injected into all the areas where the threads will be placed, so the patient doesn’t feel any pain during the thread insertions.
The MINT PDO threads are inserted underneath the skin in the predetermined areas, and then lifted upwards to achieve an instant rejuvenating effect.
Aftercare and Results
At your initial consultation, Dr Nina will discuss realistic and achievable outcomes for your non-surgical brow lift, including aftercare and what to expect from the treatment.
Generally speaking, the brow lift is one of the safest and painless cosmetic procedures available today. It is minimally invasive with low risks, especially if done by a highly skilled professional like Dr Nina.
There is no down time to this procedure, in fact patients can return to their daily activities right after their visit. Avoid applying make-up, touching your face and exercising for at least 48 hours after the treatment. If you had a brow lift using PDO threads, it is also recommended that you sleep on your back with your head facing up and elevated upwards for the first few weeks.
It is common to experience minor bruising, swelling, and soreness after a brow lift, which will normally resolve in a few days.
When it comes to botulinum injections, bear in mind that toxin does not work immediately, but patients should notice an effect within 14 days. The effect of the toxin may last between two and seven months, depending on the dosage and the patient’s physiology. This is because after this time the nerve impulses will be able to travel to the muscle again and some of the stiffness in the muscles may return.
In the case of PDO threads, the effect is immediate, but the threads also normally dissolve in about three to six months. However, even when the PDO threads have dissolved, they still have a lifting and regenerative effect on the skin, stimulating the production of new collagen.
