Dr Nina x Dermalogica: the Smart Eye Density launch

Dermalogica has asked Dr Nina Bal to be part of the launch of Smart Eye Density, a redensifying under eye serum that went live on 3 August 2026. It is the third partnership between Dr Nina and the global skincare brand this year, and the campaign runs across social media.

Why the eye contour

"So many patients come to see me concerned about their eye contour," says Dr Nina. "A combination of skin ageing, visible wrinkles and dark circles are the concerns I hear most. As part of a tailored treatment plan, I recommend the Dermalogica Smart Eye Density, a bio-intelligent under eye serum designed to support the delicate skin around the eye contour. It is a lightweight formula with a growth factor complex intended to rebuild skin density."

What causes dark circles and a hollow eye contour?

Several things contribute to how bright or shadowed the eye contour looks: genetics, the natural ageing process, lifestyle, external factors and sleep. Which of them is driving the appearance varies from person to person, which is why under eye hollows and dark circles are assessed individually rather than treated to a formula.

What is the Dermalogica Smart Eye Density serum?

A targeted eye serum, applied twice daily, morning and night. Dermalogica describes it as:

  • a bio-intelligent under eye serum designed to support skin where visible density loss is most apparent
  • a formula with growth factors intended to rebuild the under eye contour over time
  • hydrating and plumping, for an immediate impact on volume
  • working to visibly diminish discolouration and darkness
  • brightening to the eye contour

Key ingredients

  • a growth factor complex with an oleosomal delivery system, to rebuild skin density
  • two types of hyaluronic acid, to plump and hydrate
  • rye seed and sweet potato extract plus CoQ10, to help diminish discolouration

How Dr Nina applies it

"After cleansing, exfoliating and toning, I apply the Smart Eye Density serum and follow with my face serum, moisturiser and SPF," says Dr Nina. "I pump a small amount onto my ring finger and use a gentle tapping motion across the under eye and orbital bone. Start at the inner corner, work out to the outer corner, then up towards the temples."

Skincare alongside treatment

Skincare is one part of a plan rather than the whole of it. At consultation Dr Nina assesses the eye contour and, where it is appropriate, may discuss in-clinic options such as tear trough rejuvenation, polynucleotides or Jalupro Young Eyes, with a daily serum used to support skin density between appointments. Not everyone is suited to every option, and Dr Nina will say so.
