Dr Nina Bal in The Wellness Editor on Midlife Aesthetic Treatments

Dr Nina Bal at the consultation desk at Facial Sculpting, in front of the framed press wall

The Wellness Editor has asked Dr Nina Bal, Advanced Facial Aesthetics Clinician and founder of Facial Sculpting, to help answer the question its readers in their forties and fifties keep arriving with: of all the aesthetic treatments marketed at midlife, which are actually worth the money. The feature was published on 16 October 2026.

Dr Nina is asked three of the questions in the piece. On whether anything is being over promoted to women in midlife, she takes issue with the premise behind most of the marketing: that every sign of ageing is a problem waiting to be corrected. Treatments are worth having when they are chosen deliberately, and no woman should feel she has to keep doing something to her face simply because she is getting older.

What to ask before you spend anything

On how to judge a recommendation, her answer is a short list of questions any practitioner should be glad to answer: what the treatment will actually achieve, why it has been recommended for you rather than something else, what the alternatives are, what the risks and the downtime are, how long the result should last, and what happens if you do not like it. A consultation that cannot hold that conversation, or that leaves you feeling pressed into a decision, has told you what you need to know.

It is the same standard we set out in the patient guide, and it is why every treatment here starts with a consultation rather than a price list.

What a realistic plan looks like

Asked what a sensible midlife routine is, Dr Nina keeps it deliberately plain: cleanse and protect with a broad spectrum SPF in the morning, cleanse and use the active ingredients that suit your skin in the evening, and then a small number of professional treatments across the year chosen around your own concerns rather than a schedule. Sleep, nutrition, hydration and not smoking do more of the work than most people expect.

If you are deciding where to start, the concern guides are written for exactly that: fine lines and wrinkles, sagging skin and skin quality and radiance each explain what is happening in the skin and which treatments address it. Current treatment costs are on the prices page.
