Publication: The Sun. Published: 29 October 2026. Feature: Seven beauty experts reveal the common skin sins ruining your routine, and how to fix them.
The same panel ran in print in Fabulous on 25 October 2026, across pages 28 and 29, as The 7 Deadly Beauty Sins by Jo Hoare, with Nina's section headed Nail in the coffin alongside Alice du Parcq, Dr Sabika Karim, Nadine Baggott, Adam Reed, Annabel Clark-Clements and Lisa Caldognetto.
The Sun asked seven beauty experts to name the everyday habits that quietly undo a good routine. Under the heading Nail in the coffin, Dr Nina Bal, founder of Facial Sculpting Clinic, took the one that happens at the end of a manicure.
Her point to the paper: "Picking or peeling off gel polish can take layers of the natural nail with it, leaving nails thin, weak and prone to splitting."
What to do instead, in her words: "Instead, have it professionally removed or soak it off correctly to give your nails recovery time."
It is the principle we come back to in clinic with skin as well as nails. The harm is rarely in the treatment; it is in the shortcut taken at the end of it, and in the recovery time that never gets given. That is why a plan here starts at the consultation, where aftercare is settled before anything is booked, and why the patient guide sets out what to ask of any practitioner first.
