"I recently visited Dr Nina at her Belgravia clinic and had the most wonderful experience, she is so skilled at what she does, super professional and not mention just lovely! She made me feel completely at ease and comfortable whilst talking through the procedures with great knowledge. I had Botox and profhilo with Dr Nina and it’s been a little over a week since the treatments and I am completely over the moon with my results, my skin has never been so glowy and radiant. I can’t wait for my next session in a few weeks."

Treatment summary
Profhilo® at a glance
Profhilo® is an injectable skin booster made from one of the highest concentrations of stabilised hyaluronic acid, free of chemical cross-linking agents. Rather than filling lines or adding volume, it spreads under the skin to hydrate and bio-remodel the tissue, stimulating the skin’s own collagen and elastin to improve quality, firmness and mild laxity. It is best for skin quality and hydration, not for restoring lost facial volume.

The treatment
What is Profhilo®?
Profhilo® is an injectable skin booster used to improve skin quality, hydration and firmness. It is made from stabilised hyaluronic acid — a substance found naturally in the skin — at one of the highest concentrations available, and is free of any chemical cross-linking agents. This gives a uniquely fluid gel that spreads beneath the skin after injection.
Because it is not cross-linked like a traditional dermal filler, Profhilo® does not stay in one place to add volume or fill a line. Instead it triggers a bio-remodelling response: it hydrates the skin and stimulates the production of new collagen and elastin, helping to improve skin tone, texture and mild laxity over the following weeks.
Profhilo® is one of several skin-quality options — see our full range of treatments for how it compares with polynucleotides and other skin boosters, and the honest limitations below for where it is not the right choice.
Concerns it can help
What does Profhilo® address?
Profhilo® is designed for skin-quality and hydration concerns rather than volume loss or static wrinkles.

The process
How Profhilo® works, step by step
- Consultation & assessmentDr Nina or the team assess your skin, concerns and medical history and confirm whether Profhilo® is suitable, or whether another skin treatment would suit you better.
- Mapping the injection pointsA small number of precise injection points (often using the established “BAP” technique) are planned so the product can spread evenly across the treatment area.
- The injectionsProfhilo® is injected through a few small points. The fluid gel then spreads beneath the skin to hydrate and bio-remodel the tissue. Most people find it quick and well tolerated.
- Bio-remodelling beginsOver the following weeks the hyaluronic acid stimulates your own collagen and elastin, gradually improving skin quality, firmness and hydration.
- Second session & reviewA second session is usually carried out around four weeks later to complete the initial course, and your progress can be reviewed as results develop.
“A less-is-more philosophy: Profhilo® only when it’s genuinely right for your skin — for results that look like you, refined.”
The Facial Sculpting approach · Dr Nina BalBefore treatment
What happens at your consultation
A consultation is recommended before Profhilo®. During your consultation with Dr Nina and her team you will have your skin assessed and your suitability for treatment reviewed. You will be talked through the treatment in detail — what to expect during and after — and given the opportunity to ask questions.
The consultation covers your medical history, an assessment of your skin and concerns, your suitability and any contraindications, realistic expected outcomes, alternatives if Profhilo® is not ideal, consent, aftercare, and confirmation of your individual plan and price.
Results & recovery
What to expect afterwards
Profhilo® involves minimal downtime. You may notice small raised bumps at the injection points, which typically settle within a few hours to about a day as the product disperses. Some redness, swelling or occasional bruising can occur and usually resolves quickly. You receive aftercare guidance tailored to your treatment — for example, avoiding make-up over the area for a short period afterwards.
Results & maintenance: results develop gradually over the weeks following your sessions as collagen and elastin are stimulated, rather than appearing immediately. Maintenance is typically recommended around every six months to keep skin quality at its best. Individual results vary with skin type, lifestyle and ageing factors.
Typical results timeline
Small bumps at the injection points, which begin to settle within hours.
Bumps disperse; any redness, swelling or bruising starts to resolve.
Skin begins to feel more hydrated as bio-remodelling gets underway; second session usually given at ~4 weeks.
Improvement in skin quality, firmness and glow becomes more visible after the initial course.
Maintenance is typically recommended to sustain results.
Safety
Possible risks & side effects
As with any injectable treatment, Profhilo® carries some risks. Common, temporary effects include small bumps at the injection points, redness, swelling, tenderness or occasional bruising, which usually settle within hours to days. Less common risks, including infection or a reaction to the product, are discussed individually at consultation.
Careful patient selection, accurate technique and an experienced practitioner are important for reducing avoidable risks. If anything is unexpected after treatment, you can contact the clinic for advice.
Honest limitations
What Profhilo® cannot do
- It is not a dermal filler — it does not add volume or fill individual lines.
- It cannot lift or remove significant excess or sagging skin.
- It does not give an instant result — improvement builds over weeks.
- It is not permanent; maintenance sessions are needed to sustain results.

Dr Nina gave me such expert skincare advice and advised me on a new routine which was so easy to follow as everything is written out and explained step by step. I’m really looking forward to implementing this and seeing the results in a few months time. Thank you Nina
I’m so happy with my results from the fantastic clinic. Nina and her team were fabulous. Thank you again!
I visited Dr Nina Bal recently for lip fillers, the surgery located in Belgravia was so beautiful and very high end! The surgery itself was very covid aware with plenty of sanitiser stations and every employee was wearing a mask and gloves. Dr Nina made me feel very comfortable and the procedure was quick and easy. She had a lovely energy and really cared for me as a patient, which made the experience so much more positive. Thanks again for my lovely lip fillers, they’re so natural and much more voluminous than before. Super happy, couldn’t recommend Dr Nina Bal more
Your questions
Profhilo® FAQs
What is Profhilo®?
Profhilo® is a skin-remodelling treatment that uses highly concentrated, stabilised hyaluronic acid to hydrate the skin and improve elasticity and texture on the face, neck and hands. It is a skin booster rather than a wrinkle filler — it bio-remodels the skin instead of adding volume.
Is Profhilo® a dermal filler?
No. Although it is made from hyaluronic acid like many fillers, Profhilo® is not cross-linked, so it does not stay in one place to add volume or fill a line. Instead it spreads under the skin to hydrate and stimulate collagen and elastin, improving skin quality and firmness. Where volume or contour is the concern, Dr Nina will discuss alternatives such as dermal fillers.
How does Profhilo® work?
Profhilo® uses stabilised hyaluronic acid that is free of chemical cross-linking agents. After it is injected through a few small points, the fluid gel spreads beneath the skin, hydrating the tissue and triggering a bio-remodelling response that stimulates new collagen and elastin over the following weeks.
What areas can Profhilo® treat?
Profhilo® is commonly used on the face, neck and hands — areas where skin quality, hydration and firmness can decline with age. Your treatment plan is tailored to your skin and concerns at consultation.
How many sessions are required for optimal results?
A course of two to three sessions spaced around four weeks apart is typically recommended, with results developing over the following weeks. Maintenance sessions, often around every six months, help to sustain skin quality. Your exact plan is confirmed at consultation.
How are the injections given?
Profhilo® is usually administered through a small number of precise injection points (often using the established “BAP” technique) so the product can spread evenly across the area. Most people find the treatment quick and well tolerated.
Is Profhilo® painful?
Most patients tolerate Profhilo® well as only a few small injection points are used. Topical numbing cream can be applied on request for comfort. Any tenderness afterwards is usually mild and short-lived. Your practitioner will explain what to expect.
Is there downtime after Profhilo®?
Downtime is minimal. You may have small raised bumps at the injection points that typically settle within a few hours to about a day, and occasional redness, swelling or bruising that resolves quickly. It is usually advised not to wear make-up over the treated area for a short period afterwards.
When will I see results?
Profhilo® works gradually rather than instantly. Skin often feels more hydrated within the first couple of weeks, with improvements in firmness, texture and glow becoming more visible after the initial course of sessions. Individual results vary.
How long do the results last?
Results vary from person to person depending on skin type and ageing factors. To maintain skin quality, maintenance sessions are typically recommended, often around every six months. Dr Nina will advise on a maintenance schedule that suits you.
Who is a good candidate for Profhilo®?
Profhilo® may suit adults who want to improve skin quality, hydration and firmness — for example skin that looks dull, dehydrated, thin or crêpey, or that is showing early loss of elasticity. It is not aimed at restoring lost volume or filling static lines. Suitability is confirmed at consultation.
Who is Profhilo® not suitable for?
Profhilo® may not be appropriate during pregnancy or breastfeeding, with an active infection or skin condition in the treatment area, with a known allergy to hyaluronic acid or product ingredients, or with certain medical conditions. It is also not the right choice if your main goal is added volume or filling deep lines. Suitability is always confirmed at consultation.
Is Profhilo® safe?
Profhilo® uses a well-established, stabilised hyaluronic acid and is administered by trained practitioners. As with any injectable, careful patient selection, good technique and practitioner experience are central to safety. Possible side effects — such as injection-point bumps, redness, swelling, tenderness or bruising — are discussed in full at consultation, and Dr Nina will only proceed when she believes the treatment is appropriate for you.
How is Profhilo® different from polynucleotides?
Both are injectable skin treatments that improve skin quality, but they work differently. Profhilo® uses stabilised hyaluronic acid to hydrate and bio-remodel the skin, while polynucleotides are regenerative injectables that support skin repair and elasticity. They can be complementary, and Dr Nina will advise which — or which combination — best suits your skin.
Can Profhilo® be combined with other treatments?
Yes. Profhilo® is often planned alongside other treatments — for example polynucleotides for skin quality, or energy-based treatments such as Endolift® or EMFACE® for firmness and lift — as part of a wider plan. Dr Nina will advise on what is appropriate and safe to combine, and the right order.
How much does Profhilo® cost in London?
Profhilo® at Facial Sculpting is from £640 per area. As a course of two sessions is usually recommended, the total depends on the areas treated and your individual plan, which is confirmed at consultation.
Is a consultation required before Profhilo®?
A consultation is recommended to assess your skin and concerns, review your medical history, confirm whether Profhilo® is suitable (or whether another option is better), and confirm your exact plan and price.
