Which face peel is best for you?

Facial peels are a popular skincare treatment for improving skin texture, reducing blemishes, and promoting a youthful glow.

With so many options available, it can be quite daunting choosing which facial peel is best for you. In this article, we’ll explore the most effective facial peels, what makes a perfect peel facial, and whether chemical peels truly benefit your skin.

What Is the Most Effective Facial Peel?

The effectiveness of a facial peel depends on your skin type, concerns, and desired results. To take the guess work out of the process for you, we’ve listed the top facial peels below categorised by intensity.

01

Mild Peels

02

Medium Peels

03

Deep Peels

  01 - Superficial Peels (Mild)

These peels gently exfoliate the top layer of skin and brighten the complexion with little to no downtime.

  • Best for minor skin imperfections, dullness, and slight discoloration.

  • Active ingredients used are Alpha Hydroxy Acids (AHAs) like glycolic or lactic acid.

  02 - Medium Peels

These peels penetrate deeper into the skin to stimulate collagen production and improve texture, and some peeling and redness may occur. Dr. Nina’s PRX-T33 peel treatment is a medium depth peel, and we’ll discuss this treatment further down in the article.

  • Best for moderate wrinkles, sun damage, and hyperpigmentation.

  • Active ingredients used are Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA) or a combination of AHAs and Beta Hydroxy Acids (BHAs).

  03 - Deep Peels

Deep peels provide dramatic results but require longer recovery time and should only be performed by a professional.

  • Best for severe wrinkles, deep scars, and significant sun damage.

  • Active Ingredients are Phenol or high concentrations of trichloroacetic acid (TCA).

What is the perfect peel facial?

Choosing the perfect peel facial depends on several factors. These include your skin type, specific concerns, sensitivity, and desired downtime. To prevent irritation, burns or hyperpigmentation, peels should only be done by a registered professional.

Dr. Nina specialises in the PRX-T33 peel - a medium-depth, non-invasive, biorevitalization treatment that is designed to improve skin texture, elasticity, and hydration without causing visible peeling. Unlike traditional chemical peels, PRX-T33 works at a deeper level to stimulate collagen production whilst leaving the outer skin barrier intact.

While the PRX-T33 peel contains 33% Trichloroacetic Acid (TCA), which is typically used for medium to deep peels, the presence of hydrogen peroxide modulates its action. This allows the TCA to penetrate deeper into the skin without causing excessive surface damage or visible peeling, making this the perfect peel facial if you’re after a treatment with minimal downtime.

Do Chemical Peels Really Help Your Face?

Yes, chemical peels can significantly improve your skin's appearance when used correctly. They help in four key ways:

  • Removing dead skin cells for a smoother complexion.

  • Reducing acne and breakouts.

  • Lightening dark spots and sun damage.

  • Stimulating collagen production to improve skin elasticity.

Ultimately, the perfect peel should match your skin’s needs, while balancing effectiveness and downtime. Most importantly, always consult a skincare professional to ensure the best choice for your skin type.
