Dental inlays and onlays are used when old fillings need to be removed or replaced.
A dental inlay is similar to a filling and fits inside the top edges, or cusps, of the tooth. A dental onlay is more extensive and extends over the cusps of the treated tooth.
Inlays and onlays are used when the tooth is too damaged to be successfully treated with a filling, but retains enough healthy tooth to avoid the need for a crown. A solid substance such as porcelain is used.
Inlays and onlays allow more of the patient’s original tooth structure to be preserved and the material helps to strengthen the tooth by up to 75 per cent.
We use only aesthetic materials and select an exact shade to match the rest of the tooth, producing a seamless and natural effect.
Two appointments, with a two-week interval, are necessary for this treatment.
