That ‘square-jawed’ look is usually the result of over developed masseter muscles: they are the muscles that are attached at the angle of your jaw and control your chewing. If you tense them a great deal – or grind your teeth at all – they become more pronounced and produce that strong, masculine jawline.
Many men and woman suffer for years clenching or grinding their teeth, it’s an involuntary movement which we cannot control , 70% of grinding and clenching happens at night when we sleep (ask your partner / spouse ) , or while we drive the car, watch TV. We don’t realise it, in fact the majority of my Bruxism patients (who clench and grind ) deny , as they have no awareness of it.
This causes an hypertrophic growth of the muscles attached to the jaw, called ‘ Masseters’ and therefore a ‘ wider square ‘ looking face due to hypertrophic growth of the masseter (masticatory muscles).
The grinding and its symptoms can be dramatically reduced by injecting Botox into the masseter (the muscle attached to the jaw), which reduces local muscle activity leading to dramatic changes in face shape after regular treatment.
Dr Nina is a Bruxism/Jaw specialist as being a Cosmetic Dental Surgeon she knows in depth the knowledge regarding the Jaw and how it functions.
What happens during the treatment?
The neck and face will be cleaned with alcohol after applying the topical anaesthetic cream.
Dr Nina will then facial map/mark your Masseter muscles with a white pencil. No sides will be the same, one muscle will always be stronger due to e.g. you may chew your food on one side more than the other so she may need to inject more one side.
Botox is injected directly into the masseter muscle : you should expect 2-3 injections either side.
When will I see results?
The Botox will start working within the first 3-7 days however the overall result will be seen within 6-8 weeks.
Dr Nina charges £550.00 for jaw slimming Botox which also includes a top up two/three weeks after the appointment if required.
