Chin Sculpting Treatment
Also known as a non-surgical chin augmentation, chin sculpting has grown in popularity in recent years. This is because a strong chin and a well-proportioned lower face are important elements of attractiveness, adding definition, creating symmetry, and bringing balance to facial features.
Dr Nina performs non-surgical chin augmentation using injectable dermal fillers to subtly reshape and remodel the chin, leaving you feeling more confident with your enhanced facial profile and definition.
Our main client base for this procedure is men and women who request nasal bridge-building, a nose tip lift, and jawline and chin sculpting, or who are unhappy with a less defined side profile that gives them the overall appearance of a ‘flat face’ from the side.
What is Chin Sculpting
Chin sculpting with dermal fillers is a non-surgical procedure and is an excellent and affordable option for patients that want to correct a weak chin, a small chin, or irregularities in the chin without having to go under the knife.
The procedure involves injecting hyaluronic acid into the skin to improve projection, volume, or definition in the chin. This can also change the contour of the face by balancing facial features.
Chin sculpting is often required by patients who have had just had Nose Sculpting, in order to maintain the right proportions and the ‘Golden Ratio’ of facial beauty.
This procedure is also popular with women who want to make their overall face shape more feminine, or gentlemen who want a more masculine jawline.
What causes a weak chin
Some people are born with a recessed or under projected chin, which can be a result of orthodontic issues such as malocclusion. This is a condition that causes a poor alignment of the teeth and jaws and, consequently, poor alignment of the chin with the lips.
For others, a weak chin can be the result of the ageing process. In fact, as we age the mandible tends to get smaller, and we begin to lose fat around the mouth and chin. These gradual changes can cause the skin to sag and obscure the chin as a result.
Finally, a weak chin can be caused by a hyperactive mentalis muscle that can make the chin appear less prominent and create an unwanted dimpled look.
If one of these is your case, chin sculpting with dermal fillers can be the perfect facial aesthetics treatment option to restore symmetry in your face.
Did you know that dentists are exceptionally well-qualified to perform facial aesthetics treatments, thanks to their knowledge of facial anatomy and their ability to perform delicate treatments on a daily basis?
In her role as a qualified dental surgeon, Dr Nina understands dental occlusion and malocclusion. After the initial consultation, she will be able to gauge any dental background to facial asymmetry and provide you with a bespoke treatment plan to achieve your dream facial contour in a matter of weeks.
How does the procedure work
Dr Nina uses dermal fillers primarily containing hyaluronic acid to add volume and projection for a more flattering view from both a front and side angle. Injectable dermal fillers can not only smooth out fine lines and prevent the forming of deeper wrinkles, but they are also effective in redefining the symmetry of the face by balancing volumes and making the face aesthetically more attractive.
Injectable fillers can be placed both around the mouth and along the chin to add volume to the face and create a more youthful appearance. The added volume will not make you look heavy through the jaw or chin, but will rather create a more chiselled, defined chin by building up the area for better overall facial proportions.
Results and key benefits
As with all non-surgical procedures, results are temporary but long-lasting. Chin fillers can last anywhere from one to five years depending on what type of filler was used, how fast your metabolism is, and other factors.
During the first consultation, Dr Nina will explain everything in detail, including any follow-up treatments that might be required.
Key benefits of chin sculpting include:
- Immediate visible results
- No downtime
- Patients can resume work and normal activities almost immediately
- No anaesthesia needed
- Very safe and effective
Side effects and contraindications
Any individual who desires improved chin shape and projection may be a good candidate for chin augmentation. There is typically minimal pain associated with chin sculpting procedures, which can generally be performed with only topical anaesthesia.
Fillers are considered very safe for most people. As with any treatments that involve injections, patients might experience a few temporary side effects such as swelling and bruising for a few days afterwards.
Patients should avoid exercise for twenty-four hours after the procedure to minimize swelling. After this time, it will take approximately two weeks for the results to settle. Hard chewing should be avoided during this time.
